Carry Your Heart by Louis Busch, PhD
This title braids Cree, Anishinaabe, and other Indigenous teachings with the science of psychological flexibility, so the design needed to hold both traditions with equal weight and quiet care.
The title page stays plain and grounded, a bold serif title with an italic subtitle. Chapter openers carry small, hand-drawn animal illustrations, soft and rounded, paired with Cree-language titles like Otōtīmowin and Ākāwāmisowin, each opening with an epigraph in the original language and English.
The goal was a design that feels like it's listening rather than explaining, matching a book that asks readers to carry their hearts instead of solving them.
